News filtering into our desk indicates that
the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP
has rejected the Presidential polls of March
28th, 2015. This appears to be the
consensus of the Party hierarchy in an
emergency meeting held at the Party
Headquarters today.
The Party thanked President Jonathan for
congratulating General Muhammadu Buhari
and saw this gesture as a demonstration of
statesmanship but remarked the President
himself is a member of the Party and the
decision of the Party is supreme. Barring any
last minute changes, the decision of the
Party is to shift the Presidential Polls to the
Court Room. This decision is based on the
need to properly scrutinize the entire
process to ensure that whoever emerges
President is indeed the Choice of the People.
The Party alleged that the allegations that
must be addressed include:
1. The complains of under-age voting which
is a clear violation of Section 12 (b) of the
Electoral Act
2. Ballot snatching
3. Voters intimidation and harassment
4. Over-voting over and above the registered
number
5. PVC distribution manipulations of INEC
6. Lopsided distribution of PVC and
collusion of some State Governors in the
North and PVC producing Contractors,
among other sundry allegations.
7. Voting in the Night with lantern against
the stipulate voting period
The Party asserted that good governance
goes beyond declaring results; it also
includes verification of ballots and following
due process as stipulated in the Electoral
Act. Even the returning officers pointed at
isolated cases of irregularities, which Prof.
Jega overlooked – a behavior suggestive
that he has compromised.
The matter may be filed after the Easter
Holidays. As at now, PDP is putting together
massive evidences: photo, video, physical
and other types of evidences including
correspondences between Jega and the
Arewa Consultative Forum etc to file the
case next week-
