Nigeria-bound terror chief coming on invitation

According to a report by Daily Trust, wanted terrorist, Ahmed Al-Assir, who was arrested in Lebanon on his way to Nigeria, was coming on the invitation of a foreign company operating in the country.  Sources in Nigeria’s security circles, who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said the visa was issued by a Foreign Service official in Beirut based on that invitation.

According to the sources, without a letter of invitation the hate preacher’s visa application would not have been approved. Discussions within the security circles in Nigeria centred on a popular middle-eastern company operating in Nigeria as the originator of the invitation letter for the issuance of the visa. A source said allegations that a bribe of about $8,000 was paid by Al-Assir to obtain the visa has not been confirmed. Security sources however said even if a bribe that big was offered, it was highly unlikely that the official who issued the visa received such money alone. It was hinted that the intelligence report of the plans of Al-Assir to visit Nigeria was given to the Lebanese authorities by Hezbollah. He pointed out that the lack of an active Foreign Service liaison with security and intelligence organization at the Nigeria embassy in Beirut made it difficult to share such intelligence operations with Nigeria directly.

It is suspected in security circles that Al-Assir is coming to Nigeria to link up with Boko Haram leaders to lend support. Sources emphasized that Nigeria needs to improve its foreign service liaison  in Beirut and other embassies abroad ´so as to obtain vital intelligence of security concerns, because apparently non-existed.”

Foreign Service officials are supposed to liaise with intelligence and security organizations of host countries and share intelligence information in the tradition of “give and take,” the sources added.

President Buhari has ordered an investigation into how the ISIS leader secured a valid Nigerian visa in Lebanon.

PDP Media Watchdog To Buhari: Your appointments is Asymmetric & fraudulent

Below is a press statement from The PDP Media Watchdog
The PDP Media Watchdog has described the appointments so far made by President Buhari as fraudulent and asymmetrical, saying that the President's anti-corruption war is a charade and a deceit. The group while responding to the recent appointments as announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said that people's expectation of President Buhari to remove his ethnic and military mentality and embrace democracy may not come to pass after all.
"We mentioned this in our last statements that President Buhari and the APC is only making noise with corruption and probe to cover up their plans to derail this country. The President claimed to be fighting corruption but does not know that even lopsided appointment is also corruption. According to an English dictionary, corruption is defined as 'dishonest actions that destroys people's trust in the person or group' and in another definition, it says, 'corruption is the misuse of entrusted power (by heritage, education, marriage, election, appointment or whatever else) for private gain'

So, we wish to advise President Buhari to review his appointments to meet federal character otherwise all his efforts at fighting corruption will amount to witch-hunting" the group said. To support their positions, the group went further to list out the positions, names of individuals appointed into such post and the region where these persons hail from.

"Out of 36 known appointments so far, Mr. President and his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) allocated 11 positions to the South and gave 25 to the North which is a clear departure from the CHANGE mantra the APC promoted before and during the elections" the Watchdog said.
They re-echoed that except President Buhari reverse or invalidate some of  his appointments to meet ethnic balance in the country and remove those perceived to be his family member or close associates, Nigerians and the International Community should never support his anti-corruption war which according to the group is only mere witch-hunting.
