T.B Joshua fails to honor court invite, case adjourned till December

The hearing on the suit against Synagogue Pastor, T.B Joshua and his engineers over the September 2014 church building collapse has been adjourned to December 11th by Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court. The resumed hearing of the case was meant to take place this morning but T.B. Joshua and his engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun failed to appear in court.

Counsel to the Engineers, Oluwaseun Abimbola, told the court that they were absent because they were not served with court papers. Reacting to this position, the Lagos State's Attorney General, Adeniji Kazeem said no valid physical addresses were found for the contractors, which he said was reason that the Ministry of Justice could not locate or serve the court papers.

The presiding judge ordered that proper court notices be served to the engineers within 72 hours, and advised their counsel to inform them to take the court proceedings seriously as their trial is of a criminal case. 117 people, mostly Nigerians and South Africans, died in the Church building collapse.

Nigerian who sold guns, bullets to criminals in the UK jailed for 16 years

A notorious 'godfather' who sold machines guns to criminals in Birmingham while at the heart of a gang which gunned down two innocent girls in a botched attack has been jailed for 16 years. Nigerian Nosakhere Stephenson, 41, (pictured left) masterminded an operation to sell antique firearms and specially-made bullets to criminals around the West Midlands city. Fitzroy Ducram (right), known as one of Nosa's right hand men was jailed for more than seven years Police say the gun dealer, known as 'Nosa', believed he was 'untouchable' as he ran the operation alongside fellow gang members from inside the infamous Burger Bar Boys gang.

The gang - which for years fought a bloody and protracted feud with the rival Johnson Crew - trafficked weapons including a MAC 10 machine gun, a brutal weapon which was used in one of Birmingham's most notorious murders.
Letisha Shakespeare and Charlene Ellis were innocent victims caught in the crossfire of the two warring gangs, whose turf war blighted the Aston area of Birmingham for over a decade and cost dozens of lives.
Their murders, which took place in 2003, propelled Birmingham’s gun crime problem into the national headlines and kick-started campaigns by residents who had grown tired of the daily acts of violence.
Eighteen men have now been convicted for a series of offences relating to the criminal firearms operation which Stephenson ran.
As he was jailed for 16 years, Detective Constable Phil Rodgers said the police operation - and subsequent haul of dozens of weapons and ammunition - had undoubtedly prevented more murders in the city.
The court heard how the gang had thousands of rounds of ammunition specially made to be used with guns and revolvers, which they sold for about £3,000 each.
Although Stephenson was never caught in possession of the guns, phone records linked him to each deal and every other person in the conspiracy - including his right-hand man, Sundish Nazran, who was jailed for 13 years.

EFCC Arrests Pastor for N200m fraud

Press statement from EFCC...
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Jonathan Ibinabo Alatoru, a self-acclaimed pastor and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Chemtronics Nigeria Limited, for conspiracy, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N200 million. The suspect, who had earlier jumped the administrative bail granted him by the Commission, was arrested by operatives of EFCC in a sting operation on Thursday, November 26, 2015, in Abuja.
The 55-year-old suspect had been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Abuja for the construction of a skill acquisition centre at Igualeba, Orhiomwon LGA, in Edo State, to the tune of N1.7billion. The contract, which was supposed to be completed within a year, was, however, terminated in 2011 when he could not complete the structure 18 months after. However, the suspect allegedly approached Sterling Bank Plc with some documents purported to have emanated from the Ministry to secure a N200 million bank facility. In fulfillment of the requirements to obtain the bank facility, the suspect allegedly presented both the Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, of a property located in the G.R.A., Ikeja area of Lagos and another mortgage agreement letter as collateral in 2012. The investigation, however, revealed that both documents belong to the late Vice-Admiral Babatunde Elegbede, a former military Governor of Cross Rivers State, who died in 1994. According to the complainant, the suspect also allegedly presented a forged domiciliation payment letter, stating that the proceeds of the contract should be remitted to the bank for the servicing of the loan. It was also discovered that the suspect allegedly connived with one Ndubuisi Egbe Unah, who is currently facing trial before a Federal High Court, Abuja, and some staff of the bank to perpetrate the alleged fraud. The suspect will soon be charged to court. Wilson Uwujaren Head, Media & Publicity 27th November, 2015
